Most of our products come from Amazon rain forest. They are wild harvested and collected by small farms who need the forest strong and healthy to take their livelihood. Our products are wild harvested, and for this we don’t have organic certification.
Tonka Beans
Tonka Beans are the wrinkled, black-skinned, uniquely aromatic seeds of a flowering tree (dipteryx odorata) native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil, Venezuela and Guyana
The trees grow to heights of 25-30 meters producing a pulpy fruit containing an almond shaped seed, the Tonka bean.
These seeds are manually harvested from the forest floor and naturally dried before packing, usually in 20kgs jute sacks.
Containing coumarin, hence the name “Cumaru” in Portuguese, Tonka Beans are widely used in the fragrance industry and also as a culinary ingredient. In France they are extensively used in gourmet cooking, and the unique aroma and flavor of the Tonka bean has resulted in ever increasing demand for this truly Amazonian commodity.
